TwitchLeecher(1.5.8 1.6, 1.7)
« on: August 12, 2019, 04:39:23 PM »
Greetings,
Today I've faced a problem installing TwitchLeecher(I've tried 3 different version - 1.5.8 1.6 1.7)
The issue is that process freezes at the Microsoft .NET Framework installation moment.
Is there a way to fix this problem or am I doing something wrong?

I am doing just regular things: open Porting kit -> Library -> New Custom Port and keep clicking next until it is freezing...

Please Help!

Link to github (different verions) : https://github.com/Franiac/TwitchLeecher/releases

Older TwitchLeecher versions require older .NET Framework release.

Older TwitchLeecher versions require older .NET Framework release.

You didn't way what Engine you had selected and where you got this "freeze"

Newer Engines since Wine-4.8 will take longer to package as the file sizes has increased a lot as more Wine files are now compiled as PE files (basically copied as regular windows files not the usual fake stub files that link to .so files so the file sizes are much larger)

Considering that I tried to get TwitchLeecher_1.6 working since it still provided a 32bit version, so it's a good candidate to attempt with, well getting that thing to install was a complete pain the the arse and the UI was so buggy it crashed quickly even when using Wine-Staging-4.13 so getting this application properly or even be just usable isn't lightly.

You would be better looking for something else that does the same job that's a native app.

Thank you Gcenx, I really appreciate your response)
I've tried engines:
WS10WineCX64Bit18.5.0
WS9Wine64Bit4.13
If someone tells me that I have a chance of installing TL1.7 or 1.6 on one of the resting engines - I'll try them all. But for some reason, I've got a feeling that it's not gonna change anything...idk

And one more thing that i forgot to mention - the freeing happens at Microsoft .NET Framework Processing(I'll add two screenshots) 1st - I am clicking "Accept and install" and 2nd it's where it "freezes"(might not freezes but anyways it won't go further(I gave it solid time but it didn't go))
Microsoft .NET Framework has an offline installer(for all it's versions) that I DID install using Porting Kit. (I'll add url for it).
But i didn't figure out how to use it to install TwitchLeecher right after.
But if there is a way to make a process that installs .NET Framework via offline installer as a 1st step and as a 2nd step does TwitchLeecher installation(so TL won't need to do .NET processing which causes a freeze (because it was installed in the previous step via offline installer))
I hope it helps or no lmk)

URL for .NET Framework 4.5.2 offline installer - https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=42642
(TwitchLeecher_1.6 requires .NET 4.5 if I'm understanding it correctly) but anyways Microsoft provides offline installers for all versions.

I've tried youtube-dl, aria2(didn't work at all), Chrome extension and about 10 more different apps including 4K Video Downloader and all of them too slow, comparing to TwitchLeecher.
I don't think that there is a good alternative for it :-[

First thing, you never manually install dotnet, it must be installed using winetricks, PortingKit provides a GUI menu for using winetricks.

From my testing, as I have said above, using Wine-Staging-4.13 (aka WS9WineStaging4.13)
I had installed dotnet462 and other possible dependencies while I did get TwitchLeecher1.6 installed and got it to launch the UI is so unstable it crashes the application.

You will need to look for another application to accomplish this or if this is the only thing that does what you need use bootcamp or a Virtual Machine.
