Mass Effect: dialogue cutting out
« on: December 23, 2016, 12:45:11 PM »
I've just bought Mass Effect on Steam and installed it in PortingKit and the game seems to generally work well.

However at a point about 15-20 minutes into the game where I opened a door and spoke to some scientists the voice dialogue - which had been working fine to that point - started to cut out.

A character would say the first couple of words and then their audio would drop out while the scene continued to play. Then another would speak and again you maybe get a word or two before their audio cut out. Music and sound effects continue without any problem.

Unfortunately in a story-driven game being unable to hear what people are telling you is a bit of a disaster so I am hoping there is an easy fix for this?

I have the exact same issue.
In the meantime, there must be some subtitle option somewhere in the settings panel.
Tried turning off hardware audio ? => EDIT: tried, issue is still there.

Any help is welcome.

This is correct. I have the same issue as well in my tests. I hope to update the Wrapper soon with a fix, but I am drowned in work at the moment. So I need to ask for some patience.

@sashimi, did you find the subtitles? they are there in the options.

@paulthetall, i had assumed this was a portingkit/wine issue but reading

I am not so sure. Although the suggestions in that thread did not work for me.

I found the game overall playable and enjoyable but it was very disappointing to lose most of the voice acting in key exchanges.

I had hoped I would be able to run Mass Effect 2 in the same wrapper by just installing it into Steam as well but it just hangs using a LOT of CPU.

Happy to be patient... these are not new games after all :)

And, thank you for your efforts!

This should now be fixed, please reinstall the port and test again.

Hi all

I'm experiencing this issue.

When I install the ME1 wrapper via the Porting Kit app, it doesn't launch at all, so I downloaded it in the Steam ME2 wrapper. I have sound when the logos appear, but I lose all sound upon hitting the main menu. All audio during gameplay music, dialogue, and effects is absent, the game is just silent. Any ideas on fixes @paulthetall?
