Secret Files Tunguska for Mac

This week will be “Deep Silver” week! 4 more adventure games of the publisher Deep Silver will be added to Porting Kit/Crossover.  Tonight Secret Files Tunguska for Mac! Game works great for even my low-end Intel HD macbook air and is tested on my Intel Iris iMac as well. If you love adventure games, this one is recommended!

On the 30th June 1908 an explosion with the combined energy of 2000 Hiroshima bombs rocked the region of Tunguska in Central Siberia and felled over 6,000 square km of trees. The explosion could be heard from as far as 1,000km away. Eye witnesses saw a long object fall from the sky which was illuminated in a blue-white light. A 20km high column of light was followed by a black-mushroom shaped cloud. It has been reported that for the next three nights it was so bright across all of Europe that you could read a newspaper outdoors. Experience this adventure in Secret Files Tunguska!

Flashback for Mac

Another Uplay game added to the Paulthetall.com catalog! Flashback for Mac is added to Porting Kit/Crossover. Game works great as well on my low-end Macbook air as on my Intel Iris Mac. The cool part of this Flashback game is that it also contains the old fashion Flashback game from the nineties! I was thrilled to play it again on my Mac.

20 years after the original game’s launch, Conrad is enlisted back to active service for the triumphant return of one of the most acclaimed franchises in gaming history. It is Flashback re-imagined. The original Core-Team revamped their own creation, leveraging the best of today’s technology while remaining true to the classic side-scroller that set the standards of the genre in the 90’s.

Another Uplay fix after another Uplay update…

Its a mess with game clients lately in combination with Wine. Main problem is the drop of support of Windows XP. We had the issue already with Origin (already solved months back), and now Uplay needed to mess-up stuff as well. Luckily thanks to some enlightening input of Brainzyy (one of the Porting Kit supporters), we managed to address this issue and fixed the issue with the latest Porting Kit update. So if you Play Uplay games, make sure you update to the latest Porting Kit version.

We just updated Porting Kit about 2 weeks ago because of an other Uplay issue, but now The Uplay users were surprised to get an error message which said that Windows XP is not supported anymore and an update was required. When you clicked “ok”, Uplay would close down. Changing the OS in the wrapper to Vista/Win7 was not sufficient to fix the issue. A new staged wine engine would be required to address that problem.

So, now the problem was clear we had to make an update in the custom engine and in the OS version of the Wrapper (which needed an update in Porting Kit itself). I updated the Custom engine of Anno 2070, so that port will work again, but I need to do the same for the other 7 Uplay games tonight (small adjustment). So if you read this post a day later then it was posted the updates are then already done. Have fun and lets hope Uplay won’t come with more surprise updates soon…

Europa Universalis Rome for Mac

On request I added Europa Universalis Rome Gold to Porting Kit! Although the game is already native for Mac on Gamersgate, I made this port for the GOG.com version. That one is half of the price of the Native Mac one. So feel free to choose which one to use.

Europa Universalis Rome Gold combines the epic strategy title Europa Universalis Rome with the expansion pack Vae Victis. Experience one of the most defining periods in world history in an experience crafted by the masters of Grand Strategy. The greatest cultural and military civilizations are brought to life through this epic title rife with great strategic and tactical depth.

Red Alert Wrapper update!

I heard that Red Alert had some regular crashes, so I looked into it and was able to make it far more stable. Experienced no crashes yet at the moment (played 3 levels) for testing. Also it seemed that CNCnet had an update and needed an update for .net2.0 as well. Those two fixes combined made this update.

I also updated the Cross-tie for Crossover with automatic download and install of Red Alert (will be available from Monday). So that Crosstie will have exact same features as the Porting Kit has.

Changes:
– More stable (fixed crashes)
– Multiplayer CNCnet client login fix

Porting Kit 2.4.107 released!

Has I just said, Porting Kit 2.4.107 was released, and many fixes came with it! In fact, some great changes were done since Porting Kit 2.4.40, so let’s start talking about them! Firstly, let’s focus in the most important one: Uplay ports now are working again! If you tried to install an Uplay port and it was failing to login, update to the latest PK and try again.

The second most important one: apps search now is MUCH better. Ok, we still don’t have Genres or Sources filtering yet… but now, the apps search recognizes abbreviations, can search for each separately and can even recognize a roman number and some synonyms!

Now, to the other changes:

  • Renaming an app in the Properties window will also update its name in the library
  • News and Community tabs now can show error messages, just like the trailer window
  • Create custom port now can also create Origin and Uplay ports
  • Now you can create custom ports with Mac Driver enabled
  • Now when you go leave a game description in grid mode with a trailer playing, the trailer will stop
  • Created ports now are going to have new Wineskin Menu items to improve the user experience
  • If your internet connection is unstable, PK won’t download the winetricks file improperly
  • Winetrick quicktime76 should work now, however it isn’t silent anymore
  • 64 bit wrappers will have the correct Steam, Origin and Uplay path
  • App icon should look good in Sierra alerts
  • Google related links won’t pop-up in your browser
  • ‘Reply post’ button of forum should be working again
  • WSI which doesn’t have Direct3D, OpenGL or DllOverrides overrides won’t clean the values of the port

Hope you like it :) The Legacy version still didn’t got a release with these new features and fixes, but that should arrive very soon with Porting Kit 2.5 :D

Singularity for Mac

Another great game port: Singularity! I added this game in Porting Kit and made a Cross-Tie for Crossover as well. I have to say that a good video card is required to play this game. So it may not work on low-end Intel HD Macs. The game is tested on a 21.5″  iMac with AMD Radeon GFX card (512mb), on that system the game can be played nicely on medium settings. You can imagine, that for lower end systems like Intel HD it most likely will play on low gfx settings and lower resolution.

In Singularity, you fight your way through an ever-shifting environment haunted with time ravaged creatures, while sudden time waves hurl you back and forth between 1950 and the present day. Use your wits and the perfect weapon – the Time Manipulation Device – to unravel the conspiracy on the remote island of Katorga-12.

The game works great in Crossover, so that program is advised to use. So if you haven’t Crossover yet, then get it up here and buy the program or if you want to test it first, for the 14 days trial.
